Conjuring ideas to make my dice

Happy Friday!

First of all, if you want to send a Christmas gift this week, this is the last week we can guarantee delivery before the 25th.

I've had a busy week over Christmas, but also a very inspiring one.

Why inspiring? Because you've responded with lots of ideas for the dice for Orianna, my Baldur's character.

Since I got a little too excited, I don't have the prototypes ready yet. I'm waiting for some very special materials to arrive...

In the meantime, I've analyzed the three proposals I liked the most, so you can understand how my mind works as a dice creator.

A burning heart

Celia shared a photo of her cat Orianna with us (I love her). She also sent us a Pinterest board inspired by Ori that I fell in love with.

I get the feeling that Orianna is a person with a heart as fiery as the spell of her magical thesis, and as soon as I thought about her colors (Orianna's blue and the red of fire)... The scene of young Howl accepting Calcifer in Howl's Moving Castle came to mind.

Based on that concept, I searched for several images with that color palette, or with shapes and patterns that evoked the same feelings as that scene.

I also included some images of dice that fit with my basic idea, with details on the faces with outlined edges to give that extra touch of circles and magical scrolls decorated with gold or silver ink.

Celia

The truth is that Saúl and I got a little scared because Celia mentioned my favorite movie and my two favorite dice makers (@cultdice and @fateseeker). I think Orianna reflects more of Irene than I thought.

Destroying myths

The colors that come to mind are purple and red. Unfortunately, I think they look ugly together, so I had to choose one. I like purple better, so in my mind, the dice are that color.

I also thought it would be cool if there was something like an orb in the center of the die, something like a mini black hole (?).

And then, so that the purple color of the rest of the die wouldn't look so flat, maybe you could add something to give it texture, a little glitter or something like that.

Ali

Well, for Ali and anyone else who thinks purple and red don't go well together, I'm here to dispel that myth. Purple and red are very close on the color wheel, which means you can create transitions very easily. They're a little harder to combine, but they can look really nice, as Mollymauk demonstrates in Mighty Nein.

For the black hole, a liquid orb would look great, but I still haven't mastered this technique. However, there is an unusual effect that requires a lot of skill, but it makes the inks curve inward, creating the effect of a hole inside. It could be cool, right?

Miniature dualities

I love the duality your character presents between her risky investigations and protecting her companions.

I found the mention of the lore about fireballs particularly interesting, especially since she is a mage specializing in illusions.

I think it's a good time to add a book insert to the dice. I admit that the idea is a bit complicated, and you might only be able to apply it to d20s because of their size, but I think it could be effective and it would be cool to decorate the rest of the dice with something that references illusions

Miguel

I loved Miguel's idea, and I couldn't resist buying some miniature books to test it out. I want to try adding a magic illusion effect to the d20, coming out from inside. Wish me luck!

If you want to give me any last-minute ideas, you still have time. Next Monday I'll start making the prototypes.

I'm sorry I couldn't show all the answers, but it would have made for a very long newsletter. Thank you anyway! You have a message waiting for you in your inbox 😁.

Bountiful quests and successful rolls,
